Things to Remember if You Are Addicted to Drugs or Alcohol

One of my favorite ministries at my church is the Addiction Counseling Ministry that we have. We are privileged to have some amazing substance abuse counselors. My heart really goes out to these men and women who have been afflicted with the disease of addiction, and I can tell you, I have seen some truly miraculous things happen.

When you turn your life over to God and ask Jesus Christ to come into your heart and save your soul, you will be amazed at the miraculous things that happen. Even if you are in a hopeless situation, you will find hope in Jesus. If you or someone you love is addicted to drugs and/or alcohol, here are a few things to keep in mind.

Jesus can turn your life around.

“I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.” – Philippians 4:13 You may think that your life is hopeless. You may think that you’ll never be able to change. You may be right. By yourself, you may not be able to change. But with Jesus Christ, you can do anything. If you put your faith in God and ask him to come into your heart, he will save you and make you a brand new person.

It’s never too late to ask for help.

Asking for help is never a bad thing to do. There are tons of support groups you can go to like Alcoholics Anonymous (http://www.aa.org). If you need more intensive help, you can try rehabilitation clinics like The Recovery Village (http://www.therecoveryvillage.com). There are many different places to go get help if you need help.

There’s always support at the church.

If you feel like there’s nowhere to turn, you can always come to church. No matter where you live, I’m sure there is a church around, and the church’s doors are always open. No matter where you have been, what you have done, or where you are from, Jesus Christ has already paid for all of your sins. God’s arms are always open to you, and if the church contains true men or women of God as leaders, the church doors will also be open to you.

I know it may seem like you need drugs or alcohol. It may seem like you are filling a void that cannot be filled any other way. This is not the case, however. It’s important to remember that you don’t need drugs or alcohol to be fulfilled.
